In the month of February, the city comes even more alive when it holds the largest carnival in France. This annual event attracts young and old alike to check out the dazzling costumes and decorations.
For 15 days, including three weekends, a procession of enormous floats travel down city streets. The theme changes each year, and throngs of people flock to Nice to be part of the festivities. The best place to see this spectacle of colors and glitz is the area from Place Masséna to Jardin Albert 1er.
The famous Bataille de Fleurs (Flower Battle) also contributes to the international renown of the Nice Carnival. Mimosa, lilies and other blossoms are tossed from the passing floats, raining fresh flowers into spectators’ outstretched arms.
